Sayl armrests are three-way adjustable and available in seven different colors. A 4D armrest is also available.

3D intelligent back
Sayl’s unframed 3D Intelligent back lets you stretch and move, striking a healthy balance between support and freedom. The elastomer strands of the suspension back vary in thickness and tension to provide greater support in the transition areas along the spine and less everywhere else to encourage a full range of seated movement.
PostureFit
The construction of Sayl’s 3D Intelligent suspension back provides passive PostureFit sacral support, which allows your spine to maintain its natural S shape and empowers your body to maintain a healthful posture with less fatigue.
Dynamic support
The foundational shell of the fully upholstered work chair mimics the 3D Intelligent suspension, providing similar dynamic support in a more traditional back.

Sayl’s unframed back and Y-Tower support create a striking visual aesthetic that reveals both the designer’s inspiration and intent. Both the stretch-knit back and fully upholstered version offer an expressive palette that will complement any environment.

Herman Miller asked designer Yves Béhar to design a highly affordable chair that would incorporate everything Herman Miller is known for—beautiful design, first-class ergonomics, elegant engineering, and respect for the environment. Sayl is the result of that challenging design brief.

What is customizable?
There are a lot of choices to be made when configuring the perfect Sayl chair. Options are divided along cosmetic and ergonomic lines.
Three distinct looks
The Sayl backrest is available with a transparent polymer suspension, fully upholstered or with a fabric called Netweave that’s somewhere in between for a standout look.
Which tilting mechanism is best?
The majority of Sayl chairs are specced with a front favoring tilting mechanism with the addition of a blocking mechanism for reclining. The following options are available: no adjustment, adjustment for a negative angle of the seat pan and a blocking mechanism for reclining motion of the backrest or a combination of these.
Additional back support
You will feel instantly at home in a Sayl chair, but additional back support is available. This support can be installed in the non-upholstered Sayl at a later date. This is not possible with versions that do have traditional upholstery.
Armrests
We recommend the fully adjustable armrest. As well as being height adjustable, these armrests are able to turn and move forwards/backwards. Fixed armrests are available as well.
Wheels
The Aeron is fitted with wheels that are compatible with either hard floors or carpet. Wheels with a braking system (for when the chair is not in use) are also available.
Frame, back and seat colors
Sayl allows for a wide range of customization. Black and white are the base colors to choose from. Additionally, there are six colors for the back suspension, eight colors for the Netweave option and a great number of fabrics and colors for the seat pan and back. Lastly, there are seven colors for the armrests.
